Carson Raymond Field Lighting Project Update

As we end 2016, the NCRL Board wanted to provide an update on our fundraising efforts to light Carson Raymond Field.   Buoyed by the efforts of our players and families during last Spring’s “Line Drives for Lights”, we have secured a total of $45,000 towards the project.   This is half of what is needed to complete the project.

In addition to our fundraising efforts, we applied for a grant through MLB’s Baseball Tomorrow Fund.  The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is a joint effort between MLB and the Major League Players Association.  The fund awards grants to organizations involved in the operation of youth baseball and softball programs and facilities.

Earlier this month, we were notified that NCRL was one of the finalists for this grant cycle.  If approved, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund grant will cover the remaining funds required to complete the project.   We expect a decision on our grant in late January.

We would have not been able to get this far in the process without the support of the NCRL community.  Thank you!

Does Your Company Reward Your Volunteer Hours?

Are you a full-time coach or do you help out at your kids practices, have you worked in the concession stand, or have you helped with Opening Day or the Skills Challenge?

If so, your company may consider that time "volunteer hours" and will make a donation to support the Northside Cal Ripken League. Often times employers will donate money on behalf of their employees who give time as a volunteer for certain non-profit organizations.

For example, State Farm will donate $500 on behalf of their employees who give at least 40 hours of volunteer service to non-profit organizations.

If you have given volunteer time to Northside, please check with your employer to see if they make any type of donations for this activity.

Spring 2017 Registration is now Open!

NORTHSIDE CAL RIPKEN & LANE BABE RUTH BASEBALL
2017 Spring Registration Information
Registration is now completely online and it is very easy to do!
Divisions may reach capacity so register early!

To register, go to northsidecalripken.org.  Payment may be made by mail or in person if necessary; however, registration is not complete until we receive your payment (*details below).  See below to determine the right division for your child.  We require that families register their children for their appropriate division based upon the birth date ranges that are specified.  Exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.  Registration deadline is February 1st (if paying by mail, then must be postmarked by January 31st) for reduced fee.  We will accept registrations after February 1st if space is available, but the fee for some divisions will be increased.  All cash or check payments are due by no later than January 31, 2017.  Any “pay in person” registration for which payment has not been received by January 31st will be deleted from our online registration system.  Players ages 8-15 also have an option to try out for a tournament/travel team at additional cost.
In an effort to keep the T-ball teams to a manageable size, we are offering a free T-ball registration for any child if his or her parent agrees to coach a team (1 free T-ball player per family). Please note your T-ball player’s name on your coaching application. This is on a first come, first served basis. Those not initially selected will be placed on a waiting list until all teams are formed.

If you have questions about registering for a division outside the recommended age groups listed below, or if you have scholarship or equipment needs, please e-mail the league at ncrlbaseball@gmail.com.
For 4 - 6 year olds (born between 5/1/11- 4/30/14)
Beginner or Advanced T-ball            Cost: $40 + 2 hours volunteer time
Beginner T-Ball:  For children who need very basic instruction, how to swing a bat, where to run after hitting the ball, and how to field and throw.
Advanced T-Ball:  We recommend this division if your child is in this age group and has played T-Ball before and has an understanding of basic skills.
For 6 - 8 year olds (born between 5/1/08 - 4/30/11)
Junior Rookie or Rookie
Please choose a Rookie division based upon criteria below.  If you are unsure, choose Junior Rookie. Final placement may differ and will take place after player evaluations. Players typically spend only one season in the Jr. Rookie League.  If you have played before in Jr. Rookie, choose Rookie.
Junior Rookie: This division is intended to focus on baseball fundamentals for children in this age group who are new to the game.  Junior Rookie uses a pitching machine just like the Rookie League, but the pitch speed is slower.  **Mandatory player evaluation on February 25th.
Rookie: For children in this age group who are familiar with the fundamentals and are ready to be challenged to practice and improve their skills and strategy.  **Mandatory player evaluation on February 25th.
For 9 - 10 year olds (born between 5/1/06- 4/30/08)
Minor: Players begin to play under more ‘advanced’ rules. Kids pitch in the Minors.  Stealing is allowed, but only after the pitch has crossed the plate.  Skills continue to be developed while coaches encourage strategic thinking.   **Mandatory player evaluation on February 25th.
For 11 - 12 year olds (born between 5/1/04 - 4/30/06)
Major: Players work to improve skills, teamwork and strategy.  Rules become more advanced to resemble adult league rules.   **Mandatory player evaluation on February 25th.
Cost for Junior Rookie, Rookie, Minor, and Major Divisions
By February 1st:  $80 + 2 hours volunteer/concessions stand work time
After February 1st: $115 + 2 hours volunteer/concessions stand work time

For 13 - 15 year olds (born between 5/1/01 - 4/30/04)
Northside Cal Ripken League and Lane Babe Ruth League of Charlottesville are excited to announce our partnership to help provide a quality baseball experience for players in our area.  Signups will be handled through Northside’s portal, and will follow the process outlined on this document.
Cost for Lane Babe Ruth League:  $130 + volunteer/concession stand work time

**Players are evaluated for even distribution across teams.  You may request to be with a coach, team, or friend and we will try to honor that request; however, we cannot guarantee that requests will be honored.
Evaluation day is set for Saturday, February 25th , weather permitting (Inclement Weather Date: 2/26/17)
All Jr. Rookie, Rookie, Minor, Major, & 13-15 division players must attend.
