Opening Day Success!

Opening Day: Cold but Fun!
The Northside Spring Season has officially begun!

Thank you to all the Board Members, Volunteers, Northside Players and Families that made our Opening Day Ceremony fun!  Cheryl LaRosa did a fantastic job coordinating the day along with Alice Riccabona, Northside President.  Everyone appreciated the location change to indoors!

What a thrill it was to have as our Special Guest, Brett Johnson of the JMU Dukes and Charlottesville Tom Sox ... a former Northside Player!

Dave Alley and John Raymond kept the ceremony moving as they emceed!  Thank you to Chris Clarke for setting up the sound system that allowed everyone to be heard.

Congratulations to Jack Decker who was awarded the Pritchett Scholarship ~ another Northside Alum!

Check out our Facebook Page for pictures of the ceremony.

Opening Day Information

Opening Day is just days away!
Please join us to celebrate Northside Opening Day on Saturday, March 28th. Wear your uniform, or just your team hat and shirt, and come enjoy the fun. Our concession stand will be open, special guests will be in attendance and Rivanna Gear and Apparel, Med Express Urgent Care and the Charlottesville Tom Sox will have tables set up with everything you need to play or enjoy watching the game! Here are a few important things you need to know:
  • Ceremonies will begin promptly at 9:00 and should end by 11:00 am.
  • All players should arrive by 8:45 so that we can be ready to start on time.
  • Players will report directly to their coach on the Carson Raymond Field upon arrival and remain with their team until the ceremony is over.
  • Parents, family members and friends can watch the ceremony and wait for their player on the bleachers and along the outside of the fence.
  • Beginner and Advanced T-Ball players will be dismissed through the right field gate, near the concession stand after the teams are announced and the National Anthem
  • Volunteers wearing bright orange shirts will be available to answer any questions you may have and assist your and/or your player.
Games will take place on both Hollymead fields shortly after the ceremony ends, so feel free to grab a snack at the concession stand and take in an inning or two. Come on out and cheer our players on to welcome in another great season at Northside!

Parking at Hollymead and Sutherland

Northside Families-

The Albemarle County Fire Department would like to send a friendly reminder about parking in the fire zone while at the Hollymead and Sutherland fields.  Any curb painted yellow, or area designated with a sign, is considered a Fire Zone and parking is not allowed there at any time.  This is a safety issue for the buildings and all individuals visiting the fields.

We appreciate your assistance and compliance with this request.

12U Tournament Team

**3/13/15 Update**

Spring 2015 12U Tournament Team

**The weather for the 12U TT tryouts looks questionable.  We will make a last minute decision as to whether they will occur at the Sutherland Field or in the Sutherland Middle School Gym.  Either way, the tryouts will be on Sat, March 14th from 9-11am.  Please bring both cleats and tennis shoes to the tryout**

Brian Kelly will be managing a 12U Northside Tournament Team for Major division players (players born 5/1/02 - 4/30/05  living within Northside’s league boundaries are eligible for consideration).  **Northside will not have a 10U or 11U Tournament for Spring 2015.  If any 10 or 11 year old Northside players would like Tournament Team experience, they are welcome to tryout for the 12U team.

The team will focus on skill development.  The team will normally get together just once a week on Sundays for either practice or game.  The cost for the team (if any) will be determined at a later date based on actual number of games and uniform costs.  Activities won’t conflict with regular Northside Spring league play and players are required to also be registered for local Northside spring play to be considered for the Tournament Team.

If interested in being considered for the 12U Northside Tournament Team, contact Brian Kelly at  Kellybr20@embarqmail.com

Next Up - Drafts and Team Formation

After evaluations have been completed, the next step in the process is to conduct the drafts for the Junior Rookie, Rookie, Minor and Major Divisions.  These drafts will occur next week.   Although we do our best to honor special requests, our primary focus is to build balanced teams, and we cannot guarantee that requests will be honored.

T-Ball teams are formed geographically, by Elementary School district.  We also do our best to honor familes' requests.

All families should hear from coaches by Friday, March 6th with your team assignments and schedules.

Practices will begin on Saturday, March 7, 2015.
Opening Day (first games) are on March 28, 2015.
