8U Tournament Team Successful Season Ends!

The Northside 8u spring tournament team wrapped up the season this past Sunday.  After finally defeating Mother Nature who took 2 weekends of games, the 8u team swept the doubleheader with Greene on May 3rd, by the scores of 14-6 and 14-7.  The Greene team couldn’t hold back the offensive power of the Northside team who had a total of 42 hits spanning both games.

Northside came out swinging, scoring 7 times combined in the first inning of the games.  Offensive standouts included Tristan Knight with 7 hits and 1 RBI, including a 4th inning triple in the second game to spark the offense.  Ryan Bingaman had a stellar day, notching 6 hits and an impressive 7 RBI.  Isaac Jennings, Will Owens, Joseph Jones, and Ryan Steeper added 5 hits each while Jay Rosemond and Andy Pham notched 4 hits.  Aiden Ding tallied a hit and an RBI to round out the scoring for Northside.

Not only did Northside dominate at the plate, the team also shined in the outfield.  Urjit Dighe snagged two highlight-reel catches in the outfield to rob the Greene team of extra bases.   Heads up fielding also allowed Urjit to double up the Greene player who strayed too far from first base.
Northside’s gloves proved strong as Jay Rosemond stopped a come-backer to the pitcher position and threw out runner to help keep Greene off the scoreboard.

Ryan Steeper was solid at catcher, chasing down one foul for the out as well as a strong putout to a solid Will Owens at 1st base.  Will assisted in three putouts as well as taking care of business himself for the unassisted out.   Greene made the mistake of testing Ryan Bingaman’s glove and arm at shortstop, as he threw out one and made two unassisted putouts himself.

Despite the shortened season, the 8u team played like a seasoned team, working together and making the plays when it counted.  Congratulations to all the kids on another successful season.

Important Message from NCRL Board President

Dear Northside Family,

As we approach the half-way mark in our 2015 Spring Season, I want to take a moment to reflect on our season, and to remind everyone of a few very important themes.

I have had the pleasure of seeing many of Northside’s families on the field, at Board Meetings, and in the community and it’s wonderful to witness so many dedicated, hard-working, and caring people in action.  Northside is a premier baseball league in the Charlottesville area because of the dedication and passion of so many wonderful people.  Thank you especially to coaches, Board members, and to the parents who make sure their precious ones make it to the field for practices and games.   Your efforts are what make Northside special.

Northside’s mission, “Developing a strong community by teaching baseball fundamentals and life skills; helping kids improve as players, work as a team, and grow as individuals,” is what drives us.  I want to focus on our central theme which is “developing a strong community”.   Our league works so well because of so many helping hands – our Board has chosen to focus on developing our community through the goal of increased community participation.  Many of you have already given your two hours of service – thank you!  There are still many opportunities to help improve our league so please help us continue to build this wonderful baseball community by fulfilling your two-hour commitment.

Also, our mission centers on “helping kids improve as players”.  Remember:  Northside is a developmental baseball league – we are tasked with helping children develop into better baseball players as well as good human beings.  At times, the heat of competition can cloud the real reason we are here, and I’d ask that all of us – from coaches to parents to umpires - remember that we are working with children who are sensitive and imperfect, and we need to be supportive, encouraging, and understanding of the differing skills sets that our players bring to each practice and game.  Our players will make mistakes on the field, and our job as parents, mentors, and coaches is to help our children learn from these mistakes.  A few ill-placed negative comments can have a lasting effect on our young people, so please keep our mission in mind when you are cheering from the sidelines.

Finally, the Board of Directors wants to reinforce to everyone that we are dedicated to providing the highest quality experience for all players, coaches, and families and we’d like to ask for a minute of your time to provide us with a little mid-season feedback.  We have created a very short, 4-question survey asking for comments and suggestions about your experience so far this season.  A more comprehensive survey will be given at the end of the season as well.  Please follow this link to complete our brief survey.

Thank you all for being part of what makes Northside an exceptional sports experience for our children.

Sincerely,

Alice Riccabona
Board President, Northside Cal Ripken League

The Baseball Co Spring Break Camp

Looking to get some extra work in during Spring Break 2015?

Join The Baseball Company for our annual Spring Break Baseball Camp for ages 7-12!

This year's camp is April 6th-10th from 9am-12pm at McIntire Park.

In this camp, we will be using group and individual based instruction for all skill levels and abilities within certain age restrictions. No matter if it's your first year getting to know the game or you are a seasoned veteran, our camp has something to teach you. Dividing the groups into different skill levels, mainly by age, we will first start learning perfect fundamentals before moving on to more advanced techniques within the game. We will be covering everything from proper warm-uphitting techniquesfieldingpitching and catching.

Nolan Shaffer and various instructors from The Baseball Company will be hosting this camp. They are more than qualified to work with any player, regardless of skill level or position. We understand that building a solid foundation must be accomplished before adding more advanced techniques and thought processes to attain a high level of play.
Each day a new schedule and new drills will emerge to keep the interest level peaked to encourage a positive learning environment. At each days end we will also play controlled games on the field for the players to show off the new skills they have learned in a real time game environment with real situational game play.

Please join us at McIntire Park, and let us help make this Spring season even more successful than the last.
